Spreading the Love

Our February 1st Valentine meeting was action packed. We thanked the "dynamic duo", Mike Wolff and Boyd Childress, who donated countless hours to help stretch our Community House renovations budget; collected at least 100 gently used handbags and a ton of essentials for Lucinda Lambros’ wonderful philanthropy, Handbags for Hearts; made handcrafted valentine’s and stuffed goodie bags for local seniors; and still had time for a delicious lunch. and lots of visiting!

Welcome to our new Community House Facility Director!

At our February 1st General meeting, President Kathy Belanger announced that Monique Wolff has agreed to take on management of our Community House Facility including all repairs, maintenance and supplies. Our new Facility Director, a non-Board position, will work closely with the Board and our Community House Director, Jody Hughes, who will now be able to focus entirely on marketing, rentals and renter relations. Monique will be assisted by invaluable committee member, Denise Alvarez and any other members who would like to participate in keeping our vintage Community House looking wonderful despite her (shhh!!) advanced age. She will also be assisted by the dynamic duo, her husband Mike Wolff and Boyd Childress! Thank you for stepping up, Monique! Members who would like to join in the fun, can email Monique here.

Cocktails for a Cause - Reserve Now!

Save the Date and CLICK HERE to Register! Wednesday April 10th at 5PM for our Annual Spring Fundraiser *Cocktails for a Cause* at Aventura Sailing Club. Passed hors d’oeuvres, dinner, silent auction, raffles, entertainment and FUN! $75 per person. Benefiting Orange County United Way’s SparkPoint OC program in South County.

This event is open to couples and friends. Please reserve now. We expect a sell out for this

wonderful fundraiser.

Our solicitations team is hard at work creating beautiful baskets for our silent auction and raffle. Please do your part by asking your favorite vendors for gift certificates or items, donating a vacation home, cooking class or boat cruise, and/or creating a unique gift basket with a couple of members.

Wrapping challenged? Don’t worry! Marla and her secret weapon (Karin Marsh and her team) will make your gift look amazing. Please plan to drop off your items at the March 7th meeting or email Marla to arrange for drop off or pick up. Please be sure to supply a basket or container to keep our costs in check. This year’s event is our 3rd annual fundraiser in support of SparkPoint, a program that helps struggling families to not just “survive” but “thrive”! Thank you for your help and ongoing generosity!

Open Board and Committee Positions

Our Nominating Committee (Marla Freeman, Donna Childress and Betty Hill) are hard at work finding great candidates for open Board and Committee Positions. All of the Board positions have been broken down into smaller “bites” so that members can take on a discreet task, sharing the fun but limiting their involvement while supporting our hard working Board members. The Slate of nominees will be announced at our March meeting, at which time nominations may also be made from the floor. Board elections will take place in May as usual and new Board members will be installed at our June general meeting.

Please contact Marla if you are interested in any of the following Board positions which will be open June 1st:

Upcoming Events

Spring is in the Air! Our March 7th meeting promises to be another fun gathering, with a speaker who you are sure to find both interesting and delightful! We are hosting Southern California’s Monarch Conservation Specialist -- award winning speaker, author, photographer and “butterfly whisperer” Susie Vanderlip! Susie will be bringing some of her beautiful cards featuring garden photography and her wonderful children’s book “The Story of Chester” which she will be happy to personalize for your kids or grandkids.

We’ll have lots of time for discussion and chatting over a glass of wine ($5 suggested donation) and a hot catered dinner featuring a special “surprise" dessert donated by Lucinda Lambros. Register HERE.

Lastly, as a reminder, every member is asked to participate by helping with at least one event or meeting per year. Many hands make light work! If you haven’t participated and would like to help at the March or a future meeting, please EMAIL US to join the fun!
